I guess some of you would have expected this coming from me some time. I’m catching on really quickly and is falling into it. Especially with some expert help in the form of a character from Sesame Street, Big Bird. ;) Hur hur hur…

I started using this MacBook late March, to date it’s about 3 months. Initially I was quite adamant that I won’t become a convert. Afterall I’ve been a PC user since 1988, more than half my life.

Everything was awkward, especially the shortcut keys, I’m a hardcore keyboard shortcut person, I had to re-learn most of them.

Here’s a few of my favourite apps that I has helped inducted me into the world of Mac. You can read more about them after the cut.

These are not all of the apps I use, but suffice to say that… I AM a Mac convert. Yes I am.

What really got me going was QuickSilver, a launcher application. It allows me to search for and open anything in my Mac, using simple keystrokes. It’s very smart, it actually does adaptive search, and works out a catalog of my most frequently used apps.

I only knew iChat for video conference, Big Bird bedazzled me when he told me he could troubleshoot my Mac using iChat. That’s iChat Screen Sharing. Similar to Window’s Remote Desktop, but this is so easier to use. Right now, we use it for work too, to work on a powerpoint proposal collaboratively.

You know I’m a big fan of Google, I google everything and anything, I use Gmail, Greader, Gdocs, Gcal, Gtalk, Ganalytics. Now with the iSync utility, I have my emails, address book and calendar synched 3-ways; in the cloud, on my Mac and in my mobile! Even sweeter, Nokia has now a plug-in for iSync. Eeeha!

For the work I do, I still need to use PC, so it’s inevitable having the need to transfer files from Mac to PC. And if you know well enough, the HDD formats on Mac & PC are different, when you plug in a PC HDD you can only read/open the files, but not save into the HDD. So Big Bird to the rescue again, this time round with MacFuse and NTFS 3G. With these 2 apps installed, my Mac now can read AND write into PC-formatted HDDs.

Connectivity on Mac’s also fuss-free, the AirPort and Bluetooth. No troublesome setups. I allows me to easily use my mobile as modem to go online. At an easy click of a shortcut.
