This is one of those never-ending debate.
Yes, money is indeed important, we can’t deny. Its required in every aspect in our life, from the time we are in our mothers’ womb – visits to the gynae’s clinic, to the day we die – funeral arrangements. Everything is about money no doubt.
Some lucky fellas are born to rich families, while most of us have to earn our own keeps and sometimes even struggle to pull through a month. Some are more blessed than others, good things happen to them, things seem be easy for them. The rich always seem to get richer. This is probably the most unfair part, to be born with a silver spoon.
Money can buy you fanciful dinners to impress your friends. You can keep the tab running in a club the whole night. Money can buy you obscene amount of gifts to swoon the girl you’ve been after for a long time. Money can buy you all the insurance you need to protect yourself and all the health supplements and tonic to nourish your body. Money can buy you the most expensive penthouse in the heart of the city and the flashiest car of the year. Money can bring you around the world in 80 days, in style somemore.
One day you might run out of dinner ideas to outdo yourself, and your friends decided that you’re not cool anymore. One day you find your dream girl bad-mouthing you to your friends. One day you were told the expensive bottle of supplement contains harmful amounts of mercury. One day the realty prices falls to an all-time low, your flashy ride gets carjacked. One day your private jet crashes into a deserted island. Oohh… Your world is so crashing upon you.
Education, yes, you need money to put you through, but you won’t be able to take the shortcut to buy knowledge. With money lots of problems can be solved, but there might be repercussions that may not be known to you yet.
Money can give you security and be used to obtain certain pleasures, but ultimately happiness comes internally. It depends on what you really want in life and what you cherish and appreciate.
I’m not rich, but I’m contented with what I have. I sure hope for more money, to sustain my lifestyle with occasional luxuries. No matter how much money there is, it’ll never be enough… It’s a mercenary society, as a chinese saying goes “有钱能使鬼推磨” but “钱乃是身外物,生不带来,死不带去”
